| Reviewed by: Tim | 2/13/2008 | Ok, my rating is for the speakers BEFORE actual hook up. I'm 43 and in NO WAY an audiophile snob. Grew up on a farm and have the attitude where, if it sounds good, looks good, priced good.........IT'S GOOD! Having said that, while stationed on Okinawa from 1987-89, I ended up with $16,000 worth of equipment that filled a rack the size of a modern fridge. I studied and learned about what was good and what wasn't, how to test, what to look for, etc. I ended up coming back to the U.S. with FOUR denon POA-4400 mono amps, a DBX preamp, an AKAI reel to reel, YAMAHA tuner, SONY cd player, a pair of TEAC cassette decks, a DBX range expander, a DBX program selector, TWO 15" dispersion drive subs, a pair of BOSE 901's, two pairs of BOSE bookshelf speakers and a SOUNDCRAFTSMEN equilizer. I blew up more speakers than I currently own. Now, years later, to actually purchase speakers, NO MATTER THE COST, without listening or testing them, is akin to going on a blind date arranged by ones mother. After FAR too many nights spent in front of the monitor doing research on these speaker..........and my checkbook, I called Eric. Odd that you can send an email and get a response within MINUTES...........literally. Big plus. Anyway, pulled the trigger and ordered the PA-8F system. Ordered them on Feb 10th in the evening and they showed up on the afternoon of the 13th. Pretty impressive. The construction is VERY good. I tend to look at things most folks won't. The terminals for the wires, the grills, how the wood comes together, the centers of the drivers, the speaker surrounds, etc. Everything, so far, is making me feel quite at ease. Considering the price, I honestly figured that I'd have to give up SOMETHING. Looks, cheesy build quality, flaws somewhere, etc. Nothing so far, and I'm pretty picky on those particular areas. I DO have some "audio snob" friends that came over to laugh at me for this purchase. No one had anything negative to say and THESE snots really took a look. I'm anxious to do the hook up in a couple of weeks. I promise to give a report once that's done. If they sound as good as they look and feel, it'll be a fantastic buy.
Tim | Rating: * * * * * | | Reviewed by: Tim | 4/10/2008 | Finally got the installation complete a month ago. I sleep VERY well as of late. This sytem has exceeded my expectations in many ways. I'd actually be impressed if they didn't put out any sound. They simply look awesome. After much adjustment and tuning, I finally have them doing more than I'd hope for. The sound is top-shelf all the way around. I FINALLY have the speaker system that I'd dreamt about for years and spent about HALF my budget. Snickers and sneers from my HT friends have turned to "If my wife hears this and finds out how much you paid, I'm dead in the water for two years". It was MORE than difficult to make this purchase without testing. Hell, isn't the very definition of FAITH, "belief without evidence"? I have faith in this particular product and in Eric. The man has been honest and forthright from the beginning and I posed some ugly and very specific questions, especially on comparisons and budget constraints. I plan on buying MORE speakers for more rooms as the budget allows and will CERTAINLY refer this line and company to anyone in the market. | Rating: * * * * * | | Reviewed by: Sam | 3/23/2009 | I wanted to wait a month until writing the reveiw as there is a break in period and I didn't want to evaluate the system before I could truely form an opinion. I can say now "I am impressed" I had read many reviews and was skeptical to buy online without actualy listening to the speakers first hand, but Eric at Sound Distributors made me an offer to evaluate them for a month and if I didn't like them I could make an in store exchange for another system he sold, but that it probably wouldn't be nessessary after I had them a month. Well he was right! The Audessey microphone on my Onkyo TX SR-705 set everything up for me and with a few minor personal adjustments and the month break in I was ready to let the system breathe watching a good movie. Eagle eye was my 1st choice and I was not let down. The helicopters flying around me, the bullet casings hitting the floor behind me, car crashes, broken glass all around me and the house shaking explosions, I swear I almost ducked a few times! Just Kidding! All the speakes work very well, the mains have tremendous base capability with the duel 8" woofers so just the lowest tones are sent to the sub, which is also impressive shaking the room as needed to give you the "in the scene" feeling. The center also goes quite low with full range capability and the surrounds filled the room as the 3 speaker systems I've had before this never have. Musically the system also impressed, though I had to realy expieriment with sub placement to realy get the kick I was looking for. You know, feeling the bass drum hit you in the chest as if your at the concert. I've been let down in the past with bass guitar progressions in certain songs being lost in less capable speakers. If you are not an audiofile or even if you are, with the right AV receiver and speaker placement, I can't see how anyone could be upset with the system specialy at the price. This system is comparable to systems costing $500.00 to $800.00 more and after reviewing many name brand systems in the area for 6 months and not wanting to pay the asking price for other better known speakes with duel 8" woofers, (you know the one's i'm talking about) and not wanting to compromise the woofer size knowing what that would do to the overall sound, I made the leap! I can say now I am truley happy with my choice and looking forward to buying speakers to expand to a 7.1 system soon. Thanks Eric for doing everything you said the way you said it would happen, I look forward to dealing with you again and will now spread the good word on Premier Acoustic surround systems. | Rating: * * * * | | Write your own review | |
